This report examines the competing findings from a series of articles written by Enstrom and Pope et al. These articles disagree regarding the link between particulate matter pollution and mortality. This link is very important, because it is one of the main reasons for state and federal emissions regulations. Our report evaluates the statistical arguments and conducts a random and fixed effect meta-analysis. We conclude that both parties make reasonable criticisms of the other party, and these criticisms warrant the release of all data behind the relevant studies.
All nine of Intrepid Insight’s directors and contributors also voted to support data transparency as a principle.
